MHPG Discussion Board Rules, Guidelines, and Privacy Information

The Mental Health Professional Group (MHPG) Discussion Board is an online forum for MHPG members to interact about topics of interest, seek career advice, pose practice questions, and collaborate. To participate on this forum, you agree to follow the rules and guidelines outlined below, which are intended to ensure the best possible experience for all MHPG members. Should you have questions, comments, or concerns about the MHPG Discussion Board, please direct them to the current MHPG E-Communications Committee chair (for 2023-2024, contact Maria Rivas-Wolf at mrwolf.mft@gmail.com).

Embracing our differences

The Mental Health Professional Group (MHPG) of the American Society for Reproductive Medicine is dedicated to enhancing knowledge and understanding of psychological and emotional aspects of reproductive health.

It is the policy of the American Society for Reproductive Medicine that all participants in Society activities will enjoy an environment free from all forms of discrimination, harassment, and retaliation.  ASRM is committed to the philosophy of equal opportunity and treatment for all members regardless of race, color, religion, age, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, citizenship, disability, military status, or any other reason not related to scientific merit.

ASRM values and promotes diversity among its members, officers, and staff.  The Society prohibits discrimination toward any member due to race, color, religion, age, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, citizenship, disability, military status or other reason not related to scientific merit.

We encourage all members of MHPG to adhere to the ASRM policy. We encourage respectful dialogue and communication when interacting with one another and treating one another with respect and dignity at all times.

Please note that MHPG reserves the right to suspend or terminate membership in this community for anyone who violates these rules. ASRM reserves the right to remove any message for any reason.

Rules

• Do not disclose any information that would allow others to determine the identity of a particular client/patient. This includes name, address, or any other information that would directly or indirectly identify a particular patient.

• Do not challenge or attack others or post any language that may be deemed discriminatory. Discussion comments are meant to stimulate conversation, not to create contention. Let others have their say, just as you may.

• Do not promote your practice, services, support groups, or post commercial messages on the Discussion Board. Please contact members directly with product and service information if you believe it would help them. Details for posting support groups on the MHPG site are included below.

• Do not post advertisements for educational events (conferences, lectures, seminars, talks, courses, trainings, podcasts, etc.) that you or others offer. Instead, see “Guidelines on How to Post an Event” under the MHPG Events tab.

• Do not seek direct supervision on cases. However, you may post general questions about clinical issues that arise in your practice.

• Do not reproduce postings from other forums/discussion boards/websites without securing consent from both the original poster and the authors of subsequent comments. However, please be advised that the MHPG and ASRM has no control over whether this happens.

• Job postings, even those specific to our field, are not allowed to be posted to the MHPG Discussion Board. They must be submitted to the ASRM career center.

• Use caution when discussing products. Information posted is available for all to see, and comments are subject to libel, slander, and antitrust laws.

• All defamatory, abusive, profane, threatening, offensive, or illegal materials are strictly prohibited.

• Individual MHPG members may now post recruitments for research participation.

Posting Guidelines for the Discussion Board

• Include a signature tag with your name, affiliation, and location on all messages.

• Clearly and concisely state the topic of your post in the subject line. This allows members to respond more appropriately to your posting and makes it easier for members to search the archives by subject.

• Only post a message to the Discussion Board when it contains information that everyone can benefit from.

• Send messages such as "thanks for the information" or "me too" to individuals and not to the entire Discussion Board. Do this by using the "Reply Privately" button on the right-hand side of every post.

• Warn other list subscribers of lengthy messages either in the subject line or at the beginning of the message body with a line that says, "Long Message."

• Do not send administrative messages, such as “remove me from the list.” Instead, use the web interface to change your settings or to remove yourself from a list. If you are changing e-mail addresses, you do not need to remove yourself from the list and rejoin under your new e-mail address. Simply change your settings.

Posting Guidelines for Support Groups

The MHPG site now has a dedicated space to list Support Groups. It is located under the “Patient Resources” menu and is visible to MHPG members as well as patients/clients. If you lead a support group that you would like to list, please provide the following information to the Chair of the E-communications Committee:

  • Title of support group

  • Target population

  • Dates or meeting frequency

  • Contact information

Once submissions are received, upon approval, they will be included in a monthly email to ASRM for posting. All submissions are subject to further inquiry by the MHPG Executive Committee if questions arise or clarification is needed.
