Dear Friends and Colleagues,
I hope that 2018 has been kind to you thus far. With the recent arrival of spring, I wanted to wish you all well and share an update of the efforts the SMRU has underway.
A new venture of the SMRU is the establishment earlier this year of a website subcommittee to improve functionality and user-friendliness of the SMRU website for you, our members. Matt Coward has agreed to head this subcommittee with the assistance of Akanksha Mehta, Jim Dupree, Mary Samplaski, and Peter Stahl. Their goal is to develop interesting content for SMRU members and the broader ASRM community, such as presenting interesting cases, potentially housing a discussion forum, and maintaining updated fellowship data. In addition, the previously-distributed SMRU newsletter that Mike Eisenberg had so diligently produced for many years will now be posted directly to the website. I thank all of those mentioned for their past and future efforts.
Harris Nagler, President-Elect and Program Chair for the SMRU Annual Program at the upcoming ASRM Scientific Congress, has proposed an exciting and varied selection of offerings that will appeal not only to SMRU members, but to those of other ASRM subspecialty societies and special interest groups. The ASRM Pre-Congress and Congress Committees are putting the finishing touches on the final Congress program. A detailed summary of those offerings of specific interest to SMRU members will be shared this summer via the SMRU website.
An inaugural event being prepared for the timeframe of the ASRM Scientific Congress is a workshop geared specifically toward Andrology fellows. This experience will allow for networking and offer practical advice to current fellows as they anticipate job interviews, graduation, and establishing a practice. Thank you to Paul Shin and Susanna Scarbrough as they develop this novel offering.
We have renewed our fundraising efforts for the Traveling Scholar Program in order to completely fund those endowments that have not yet been fully-funded. I appreciate the tireless enthusiasm of Suzan Henderson and Ajay Nangia as we focus on this significant investment in the future of our field. This unique program allows us to continue to attract and recruit the best and brightest. I encourage each of you to consider making a donation. Click Here to Donate
We have some impending Society-related representation changes. I thank Jay Sandlow for his hard work and service as the SMRU Representative to the ASRM Practice Committee. The incoming representative will be announced by the ASRM. In addition, we have just concluded elections for our newest board members. I am pleased to welcome Natan Bar-Chama as Secretary/Treasurer and Tom Walsh as Director-at-Large. Much gratitude is owed to Past-President Dan Williams and Past Director-at-Large, Paul Shin, who have rotated off the Board.
Finally, I’d like to extend my appreciation to you, our SMRU membership, for supporting the Society and its Mission. Please continue your support through active participation and renewed membership, and encourage fellow colleagues and trainees who are not yet members to join. Click Here to Join The SMRU Board continues its efforts to provide excellent service and programming. Don’t forget to mark your calendars for the ASRM Scientific Congress: October 6-10 in Denver. In the interim, I look forward to seeing many of you at the spring meetings!
