Hands-on engagement and advocacy are core tenets of the PRIMED program, and unique opportunities to practice learned skills are available to PRIMED participants. For example, in June 2024, several members of the 2024 cohort joined as guests of Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer as guests at a press conference and floor proceedings during a vote on the Right to IVF Act. In September 2024, members of ASRM's inaugural PRIMED (Preparing Experts in Reproductive Medicine to Engage Decisionmakers) Program cohort - which includes physicians, nurses, embryologists, and mental health professionals from across the country - took to Capitol Hill. Exercising advocacy skills honed over the duration of the program, scholars passionately advocated before Congressional leaders and staff for enhanced, equitable access to reproductive medicine, including infertility care. They also had the opportunity to visit ASRM’s DC headquarters and hear from staff and leaders there (and play some Presidential debate bingo!), tour the Capitol, visit the White House and Supreme Court, and observe proceedings on the floor of the United States House of Representatives. The relationships formed in these experiences are impactful and long-lasting.
